From Rathmullan, County Donegal and a graduate of the pony racing circuit, Oisin Orr was 17 years of age when rode his first winner on the racecourse on the Edward Lynam-trained Balmont Blast at Dundalk on January 23rd, 2015. He enjoyed a big early success when taking the €150,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Petingo Handicap on the Tony Martin-trained Quick Jack at Leopardstown on Longines Irish Champions Weekend in September, 2016. It was the 20th winner of his career.

Oisin was crowned champion apprentice jockey at the end of the 2017 season. He rode 20 winners to defeat Killian Leonard by a single winner. 

Oisin's new found links with the Dermot Weld stable yielded almost immediate returns early in the 2019 season with Imaging providing him with a first listed success and then a first Group race success in the Group 3 Gladness Stakes at Naas on mid-April. Oisin rode his 95th career winner and lost his claim when Anya Ylina, trained by Dermot Weld, won at Gowran Park in late May, 2019. 

A double on the last day of the 2019 Flat season saw Oisin share the apprentice championship with Andrew Slattery. In a remarkable finish, Orr won the final race of the season on the Dermot Weld-trained Maria Christina to draw level with Slattery on 43 winners, more than twice the tally that saw him win the title outright two years previously. 

Oisin enjoyed his first Classic and Group 1 success when winning the 2020 Comer Group International Irish St Leger on the Dermot Weld-trained Search For A Song on Longines Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh. 

Oisin has been based primarily in the UK since late 2022.
