Nestled in County Westmeath, Kilbeggan Racecourse is one of Ireland’s oldest and most cherished National Hunt tracks. Racing has been a proud tradition here since March 1840. The course itself is a right-handed, undulating circuit of approximately 1 mile and 1 furlong, known for its sharp turns and uphill finish, which presents a unique challenge for both horses and jockeys.

One of the racecourse’s flagship events is the Midlands National Handicap Chase, held annually in July. This prestigious 3-mile, 1-furlong race boasts a €100,000 prize fund and is recognised as a key trial for the Galway Plate. Past winners include Freewheelin Dylan, who went on to win the Irish Grand National.

Kilbeggan also hosts a popular Ladies Day, which coincides with the Midlands National.  The summer racing calendar highlights the Kilbeggan Jumps Card, featuring a series of competitive races  that bring together emerging talent and seasoned competitors.

With its rich history, challenging course, and vibrant events, Kilbeggan Racecourse remains a beloved hub for National Hunt racing, blending tradition, competition, and community spirit.
