Ger Lyons was a successful National Hunt jockey in Britain until injury brought his career to a premature end in 1989. He started training in his native Ireland in 1994 and quickly enjoyed a number of notable wins in both the Flat and National Hunt game.

Since the mid-2000s, he has concentrated on the Flat and the winners have continued to flow. The likes of Elletelle, Lightening Pearl, Cappella Sansevero, Ainippe and Bear Cheek have all given him a number of Group race success and Ger is firmly established as one of the leading trainers in the country.

Ger was the driving force behind Colin Keane's remarkably successful 2017 season that saw him crowned champion jockey. The pair shared their first Group 1 success together when Siskin won the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh in August 2019. Shortly afterwards they combined to win the first running of the £1 million Ebor Handicap at York with Mustajeer. 

Siskin gave Lyons and Keane a first Classic victory when taking the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh on June 12, 2020. The race was run a little later in the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Even So gave Lyons and Keane a second Classic success in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks at the Curragh a month later. 

Ger sent out his 1,000th career winner when the Colin Keane-ridden Offiah landed the Class Grass Handicap at Roscommon on Monday, August 30, 2021.
