Trainer Edward Harty was seemingly destined to make an impact on the horse racing world from the moment he was christened. His namesake and father was a Grand National-winning jockey as well as a successful trainer, so joining the training ranks was a natural path for his son to take.

Edward had his first runners at the beginning of the Flat season in 2004 and sent out his first winner, Misty Mountain at Leopardstown less than three months later. He enjoyed great success as a dual-purpose trainer, gaining his biggest success when landing the Supreme Novices' Hurdle with Captain Cee Bee at the Cheltenham Festival in March 2008. The same horse was a Grade 1 winner over fences at the Punchestown festival two years later.

Harty also enjoyed notable success with the likes of Baron De'l and Corcovada on the Flat while Coney Island, Like Your Style, Dressedtothenines, Queens Wild, Minella Foru and Sort It Out were among the big National Hunt winners he was responsible for. 

Harty and his son Patrick created a little bit of history when they secured the first joint-licence to train in Ireland in May 2021. They had a winner on their first day with runners when Whatucallher, ridden by Frenchman conditional rider Nicolas Terrassin, won a handicap hurdle at Punchestown on May 30. The seven-year-old was actually beaten in a photo-finish but was awarded the race in the stewards' room.
