    ‘I work within the Ownership Department of HRI where the focus is between owner relations and owner recruitment. My role involves supporting the department managers which can include liaising with racecourses, contacting owners, dealing with enquiries and daily administrative duties.  I really enjoy my job, working in an industry which I am passionate about and in a company that I have made great friends.’

    "My role involves accounting for prize-money and all the associated industry areas while also managing the payroll, pension, accounts payable and receivable functions. Assisted by a small team of dedicated professionals, we ensure that HRI's finances are handled effectively and efficiently. There's no typical day with such a varied role and I enjoy working with my colleagues on cross-functional teams and liaising with industry representatives and bodies.  The horse racing and breeding industries are major employers and significant contributors to the economy in Ireland and the finance function within HRI plays an important part in developing and sustaining this industry."

    "I work at Leopardstown Racecourse as the Track Foreman. We host 23 race meetings throughout the year which incorporates our four day National Hunt Festival at Christmas and day one of Longines Irish Champions Weekend. Careful planning is required to allow us to produce a well prepared and well presented track for every meeting. There is a great sense of achievement at the end of every meeting when everyone goes home safe and sound and we move on to the next day."

    "My role as press officer of Horse Racing Ireland is challenging, interesting and quite diverse. Some of my duties include writing and sending press releases, monitoring press coverage and handling press queries and interview requests. There is a lot of crossover within our busy marketing department, so I also work on events such as launches, roadshows and the annual HRI Awards. I am also part of the social media and website content teams. Most of my colleagues in Horse Racing Ireland share a love of horse racing and while it's not essential, I think that it makes the work more rewarding and enjoyable."

    "HRI's IT Department is responsible for the provision, development and maintenance of information systems, operating systems and technical infrastructure to support the operations and management needs of HRI.     "I am responsible for the credit control function within the Client Accounts department. We strive to provide an efficient, friendly and professional service to all our clients over the phone, in person and via the online system, which gives clients instant access to information on their account and the ability to perform a number of different transactions. I am fortunate to work in a department that fosters and appreciates teamwork. It is interesting, always busy and is an enjoyable place to work.     "I have been an Authorised Officer of the Betting Division since 1979. The main function of the Betting Division is to ensure that all regulations pertaining to on-course bookmakers are adhered to which involves attending race meetings and making sure that the Bookmakers' Code of Practice and the pitch rules are followed. My role also involves liaising with course managers, SIS staff, IRIS staff and racing journalists. We also provide a service to the racing public regarding any queries they have. It is a challenging and enjoyable role which offers great variety - attending race meetings, office work and reporting to the HRI Bookmakers' Committee."

     "With responsibility for all of the Tote on-course revenue, a large part of my year is built around the festivals. However, I work closely with all of the racecourses and it's great that we are all striving to improve the overall customer experience. Having a lifelong passion for Irish racing certainly helps and the quote "Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life" is absolutely true in my case."

    "I am the Marketing Manager for Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, with responsibility for all advertising and digital marketing campaigns.  Ensuring our website is kept up to date across five languages and that ITM  has a prominent social media presence is a key priority of mine, resulting in buyers coming from across the globe.  My work with ITM has allowed me to travel extensively in Britain, the USA and Scandinavia. As the organiser of the ITM Stallion Trail, I am always looking for new ways to promote the industry in addition to attracting foreign investment."
