While the flat season continues to throw up myriad thrills and spills there remains just one name at the top of the Leading Trainers standings, with Aidan O’Brien firmly on course for his 24th title, writes Peter White.
51, has taken the title every year since 1999 and looks set to keep his grip on the gong with 54 winners so far this season taking him to €1,701,365 total prize money.
The Master of Ballydoyle has overseen a string of first places in the
first half of July, with winners including Japan in the Group 3 Green Room Meld Stakes at Leopardstown.
His son Joseph sits second in the ranks and has closed the gap to just over €515,000 thanks to recent success at Leopardstown, Killarney, Dundalk, Limerick, Fairyhouse, Roscommon, Naas, Bellewstown and Wexford.
While Joseph O’Brien
now has just two winners fewer than his father, Jessica Harrington is third with €879,655 prize money to her name and 35 winners.
Jim Bolger and Ger Lyons round off the top five on €711,670 and €689,265 respectively.
