Sizing John (front) fell on his comeback

Jessica Harrington has issued an upbeat bulletin on former Gold Cup winner Sizing John, who is on course to run in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown next month, as writes Brian Sheerin.

The 2017 Gold Cup winner fell on his comeback from injury over hurdles at Punchestown on New Year's Eve and, despite the fact he was stiff and sore afterwards, Harrington revealed her stable star should make the Dublin Racing Festival showpiece on February 2.

She said: “Of all the things to have happened, that [falling on his comeback at Punchestown] was the last thing I wanted.

Harrington added: “He's back cantering this morning but he was very, very sore after Punchestown. When they are very sore like that, it's quite hard to get them back. Having said that, I'm hoping he'll get there. Definitely, the plan is to run him there.”

When they are very sore like that, it's quite hard to get them back.
