Broome gets up to win a thrilling Dubai Gold Cup under Ryan Moore

Aidan O’Brien’s evergreen globetrotter Broome banked a half a million Euro prize with a stunning big-money win at the Dubai World Cup, writes James Toney.

Under a brilliant ride from Ryan Moore, the always talented seven-year-old scored his ninth win from 32 starts in the Dubai Gold Cup.

The horse - who finished fourth in 2019 Epsom Derby - was a Hardwicke Stakes winner at last year’s Royal Ascot and has since raced in the USA, Ireland, France, Hong Kong and Qatar.

But this was a first Group 1 win since a victory in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud nearly two years ago.

And how Moore timed it perfectly, swooping with 400 metres to go to overhaul the three horses in front of him, charging down the centre of the course to pip William Buick’s Siskany in a new course record over two miles

“He’s a brave horse, a Group 1 winner, with high class form,” said Moore.

“The pace was really strong and we just had to wait for some room on the straight. He put his head down there and gave me everything. It’s a privilege to ride a horse like him for Aidan.

“He’s done a lot of racing but you are never quite sure of him until the moment comes but he always gives me his best.

“This is one of the biggest nights of the year in racing, World Cup night in Meydan, so it feels really special to win here.”
