Students from colleges and universities across the country will have an opportunity to compete for five internships with Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) in the summer of 2014. Placements will be made in each of the four HRI racecourses: Fairyhouse, Navan, Leopardstown and Tipperary, as well as HRI headquarters in Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

The internships will begin at the end of May 2014 and will run for 10-12 weeks with each intern asked to keep a log book and write a short blog on their experience. Applications will be accepted from students with an interest in horseracing and the promotion of racing, although they can be students in any year of any course.

Commenting on the new initiative, David Wright, Group Human Resource Manager at HRI said: "I would encourage students who have a passion for the racing industry to combine this interest with their current course of study by applying for an internship at one of our racecourses or head-office departments. Racing provides a very diverse work environment and practical work experience can be gained across all business disciplines. Our interns will be mentored and integrated fully into the work of the racecourses or relevant department."

Students at the four HRI tracks will be required to assist in many areas of racecourse operations such as marketing, ticket sales, social media, website maintenance and raceday operations. The head-office-based intern may be placed in a variety of departments including Marketing, Finance and the Racing Department.

Posters have been sent to Careers Officers in colleges and universities across the country and press ads will be placed in college newspapers and magazines.

The application process aims to give students experience in the job-seeking process by sending an application along with a CV and cover letter to HRI by February 10 th 2014, following which, suitable candidates will be called for interview.
