Downpatrick Racecourse today announced
an increase in prize-money for the toalsbet.com Ulster National on Sunday 24th
March 2019. The feature race of the Downpatrick racing calendar now has a value
The increase comes from the new Horse
Racing Ireland initiative to help racecourses build upon the success of feature
races, and also the increased support by longstanding and valued sponsors,
Lauren Toal, Director
at Toals Bookmakers, said: ‘’We are
happy to continue our long association with Downpatrick Racecourse sponsoring
the toalsbet.com Ulster National. We believe the increased prize-money of
€40,000 should attract a competitive field and will provide a lively
betting market for our customers.’’
The winner of the race will also
receive the Caughoo Trophy presented by The McDowell Family in memory of their
great horse Caughoo who won the Ulster National in 1945 and 1946, before
winning the Aintree Grand National in 1947.
Other feature races on the day include
the WKD €18,000 Hurdle and the Connollys RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Maiden
Hurdle of €20,000.
