O’Brien targets interesting Cork card

Aidan O’Brien sends a couple of interesting newcomers to Cork on Wednesday with Mount Fuji and South Saqqara lining up in the opening Matchbook Irish EBF Maiden.

Seamie Heffernan is aboard Mount Fuji, who is a half-brother to Group One winner Sudirman and also holds a Listed entry for Friday at the Curragh.

Wayne Lordan teams up with South Saqqara, a son of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and a half-brother to the ultra-speedy Acapulco.

O’Brien sends National Guard for the Matchbook Rated Race, but faces the classy Chicago May who is on something of a retrieval mission following a couple of disappointing runs.

Last-time-out winners Galtee Mist and Woody Creek are others for the shortlist in this six-furlong affair.

O’Brien is also represented in the Buy Online @ Corkracecourse.ie Maiden with Pacific Ocean, although he has something to prove after being beaten in both starts to date.

Dermot Weld’s Tranchee finished third behind subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia on his only start last term and is sure to be a popular choice in the mile heat.

Weld fields newcomer Azwah in the Matchbook Maiden in which the John Oxx-trained Highland Dress, who hails from a decent family, has his first start.

Sweet Dime posted a decent effort first time out for Jessica Harrington and is one for the shortlist in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden while Deauville Society is a recent winner who goes to post in the Social Package Handicap.
